Kumi Naidoo, a world renowned human rights and environmental justice activist, is the former Secretary-General of Amnesty International and also the first person from the Global South to lead Greenpeace International. At Stanford, Dr. Naidoo is currently the Payne Distinguished Lecturer at the Centre on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law, for which he delivered a dedicated lecture entitled "Creative Maladjustment & Climate Change."

As a freedom fighter in South Africa, Kumi served as Head of Training at the Independent Electoral Commission, the body that oversaw South Africa’s first democratic elections in April 1994 and served as one of its spokespersons. Among other organizations Dr. Naidoo serves, he is the Founding Chair of Africans Rising, a pan-African movement of people and organizations working for justice, peace and dignity.

An Oxford University alumnus, he is also an Honorary Fellow of Magdalen College and a Professor of Practice at ASU's School of Global Management.

Explore Energy Seminar is hosted by the Explore Energy House, the residence hall for energy at Stanford.
