About the talk: Sensor systems improve many aspects of our lives, from safe and comfortable driving all the way to medical diagnostics at point of care. The solutions are typically the result of multi-disciplinary engineering efforts and can be quite complex.

In this talk three selected examples will be discussed:

  • Safe driving enabled by Electronic Stability Program and key MEMS sensor technologies
  • Point of care medical diagnostics enabled by Single Step Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assays (Single Step ELISA)
  • Keyless entry and in-vehicle sensing enabled by using radios as sensors

For each system the application will be explained first, followed by an in-depth description of the key sensing solutions.

About the speaker: Christoph Lang is Director, Intelligent and Connected Sensors and Systems, at the Bosch Research & Technology Center in Sunnyvale, CA. He has been working at this research center since 2004 in various roles, e.g. from 2008 to 2019 he was globally responsible for all Bosch research in the field of integrated circuits and wireless connectivity. From 2000-2004 he worked for Bosch in Germany as Integrated Circuits Architect on a MEMS gyroscope from the concept phase until hand-over into mass production.

From 1996-2000 he pursued his doctorate degree in electrical engineering at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany focusing on integrated circuit design for inertial sensors.

He is inventor on more than 50 granted patent families. His current research interests include Automotive and Consumer Sensors, Medical Diagnostics and the application of AI in Sensor Systems.
