The professorship honors a faculty member teaching and conducting research in information systems technology.
Professor Tsachy Weissman has been appointed the Robert and Barbara Kleist Professor in the School of Engineering.
The Kleist Professorship was established in 1997 by Robert and Barbara Kleist, who wished to honor a faculty member teaching and conducting research in information systems technology. Tsachy joins EE professors Andrea Montanari, who held the Kleist title from 2021-2024, and Robert Dutton, from 1999-2021.
Tsachy's research focuses on Information Theory, Data Compression and Communications, Statistical Signal Processing, Machine Learning, the interplay between them and their applications, with recent focus on applications to genomic data compression and processing.
